Ok.
I know that Oni Blades can be dropped by standard Oni and Lesser Oni.
Lesser Oni fly solo if I recall, so they're not much good.
As for standard Oni... I know a few reliable spawn-points for them in Maishang Hills, and a few out on the Jade Sea around the Halcyon and near Sskai, Dragon's Birth.

The question is whether they can effectively be farmed for Oni Blades or not?
I know they have that nasty tendency to render characters unable to cast enchantments, but I haven't checked precisely how long that lasts or how dangerous it might be.

I mean... I know people seem to love Elemental Swords, Colossal Scimitars, Dead Swords, Platinum Blades and all that.... but I don't recall ever seeing anyone here talking about farming Oni Blades..... which in my opinion are one of the best sword-designs in the game.
I'm considering doing some experimentation with my 55 Monk tonight... with a Mo/N SS build... and hopefully I should be able to keep the necessary enchantments up despite their efforts to block them (and if need be, I should manage with just Protective Spirit and Insidious Parasite for a while).

Duo them?

Sounds like I'd be cutting down severely on the drops... which is less than ideal.
I appreciate the input anyhow.

Plus I've read elsewhere that there are Ritualist and Elementalist builds capable of farming them.
My Rit is only level 3 at the moment, so I probably ought to work on her a bit more..... but my Elementalist could give it a try.

I'm starting to suspect that doing it solo with a monk might not be an option... not simply because of Shadow Shroud (I dont know how often they cast it, but I know it doesn't last very long) but because it would take the Mo/D build to counter the regen and knockdowns, and that likely doesn't have enough attack-power to handle them.
I could possibly try my Warden-farming build though...

If not then I'll need to go Rit or Elementalist.

otherwise you could maybe try solo with a Rt VwK, using a similar build as the HM Vermin build :

RezDogg's 330hp Rt/Mo works on them if you're clever and lucky enough to get your enchants in at the right time. I usually mow down the two groups that spawn on the way to the Luxon Assassins on the Halcyon Job. I have yet to see an Oni Blade worth keeping drop from them, but it works.

i farm noob island in HM all the time, and i've gotten a bunch of merch food oni blades from the two lesser oni spawns i know. there is one on an island in kinya province (map might be on wiki, if not i'll post two maps) and there's another one right outside tsumei village in sunqua vale. if you hug the left wall immediately after you spawn and walk forward, he'll pop up. 55 SV takes them down in seconds.

The one in Sunqua Vale looks good, even if it is only one.
You ever get any Gold Oni Blades though?
That is what I'm after... ideally.

After reading that thread about farming the Yeti Warrior boss in Pongmei Valley for his shield, and knowing that the Spiked Targe mesh goes really nicely with the Oni Blade mesh.... I figured I'd try to find a way to get both for my warrior ( when she eventually gets LDoA.... in like a year or so ¬_¬ )...

I mean... I'd gladly get Kai's Sword instead if I thought I could farm that bastard.

I think someone had posted a ranger solo echo trapping build for some oni spawns in maishang hills. Dont have a link to it unfortunately.

No maps of spawn-points yet as far as I can tell....

I found the one in Sunqua Vale though...
It hasn't dropped anything worthwhile so far, and I'm starting to doubt whether it is worth farming the silly thing.

I might try kitting out my elementalist to take on the ones in Maishang Hills.... Hmmm...

Next best thing...... search for Oni on wiki... see what skills they use in HM. Make your build around that.

Well...

Lets say.... I tried a variant on the duo-build listed higher up... but since my Monk doesn't have 600hp armour I had to 55 it instead, and without spellbreaker too.
AND.... since I don't have any Ranger heroes unlocked with my monk yet.... I had to use Tahlkora instead.... which means no Expertise.

I'll just note that with MUCH difficulty I managed to kill a group of Oni in Normal Mode. After trying with AV/SV... I had to make do with just AV and Remove Hex. Tahlkora had to bring Energising Wind to manage her energy, which meant reshuffling the maintained enchantments somewhat.

All in all... it was messy... but I eventually killed one group with it.

When I tried the same in Hard Mode, I found that the Oni put the Shadow Shroud on me too quickly for me to get enchantments up after removing the last one... and I died VERY quickly.

Either I'm going to have to do more work with my monk..... try with my Elementalist (no knowing if it will work in Hard Mode).... or start training my Ritualist (who is still level 3).

I just wish those damnable rot wallows weren't there.

Did u consider chest running at Raisu Palace? Thats where I've got mine r9 (I think it is 15^50) when I vanquished that area.. I killed dozens of Oni's on noob island, and got nothing spectacular from them.

gonna have to agree with sanguine, chest running is the way to go (at least for those of us who can afford it =P)

Even if you dont pop an oni blade from a chest i tend to get enough decent drops to pay off my keys, make a profit, and ultimately buy whatever i want =P

last i recall though raisu had oni blades drop often

Nice stuff drop from those chests.. You should check it out. Other then that, good place for shiny weapons is The Deep. I saw some of them dropping there too, so I would suggest that as another spot
